How do you repair a scratch in wood work?

      Hello,
This question has a few different answers. First, if it is a shallow scratch it may be possible to just lightly sand the finish and spray a clear finish over the sanded area. Second, if the scratch is deeper you will have to sand deeper into the wood and then get a matching stain and stain the wood, start with lightly staining the wood, don’t make it too dark too soon, build up to the right color. After the stain is dry coat with a clear finish. Third, if the scratch is too deep you need to fill it with a wood putty, sand, and then apply the stain to match and finally coat with a clear finish.
